Post by mm0fmfPost by brianThere were couple of stations on 2m last night running 1kW. I could
hear GD8EXI, who was running the full whack on backscatter.

Just the single kW?
I sometimes wonder about the company that advertises 10kW-capable
antenna matching units in Radcom and elsewhere. Do they have customers
who need this or is it just a bit of belt and braces?
Well there is the fact that if you want to run a moderately QRO signal
it is better not to run the PA at the limit. i.e. 400W, have an amp that
can produce a good few hundred watts more so there's some headroom in
the PA and PSU.
So if I was going to be running a kW, I'd want a 1.5kW capable amp... a
Tempo or such for the old school style. But those who were already at
the 1 or 1.5kW level before the change will be looking at how much a 3
phase supply costs and some of those very big Russian bottles.
