I will watch this one with interest Derek.
I am also thinking of getting the Mac 200.

It will be either that or trading my TS530s and FC-902 plus my HF-125 in for
a TX/RX that covers all bands and has auto atu.

I was under the impression that tranceiver auto ATUs were not that
good at matching way-out SWRs. If they are not so good, be careful you
don't weld the capacitor vanes together.....
(This had happened in my "pre-loved" FT 767GX)

The advantage of a separate AUTO ATU is that you can site it away from
the shack (and the XYL's Hifi/TV/satellite) and any sprogs you might
generate during tune up won't be noticed.
(Unless you have a very well tuned antenna.....in which case you don't
need an auto ATU).

I looked at one at the Stevenage rally, but ended up buying the MFJ993
as it does all I want, and is considerably (nearly UKL100) cheaper. It
doesn't cover 6m, but that's not a problem as I only need it for HF.
Once it's been 'trained' to suitable frequencies in each band it works
fine.

Regards,
Andrew.

The only thing with the MFJ993 is you can not have a long wire and two coax
antennas attached at the same time according to the instructions

True; but that wasn't an issue for me. I don't need that many antennas
connected at once (I use a vertical coax-fed centre-fed dipole for 10m
and 12m, and a 170ft. longwire, fed against multiple quarter-wave
counterpoises, for the other HF bands), but if I did, I'd just use a
coax switch to select the coax-fed antenna I wanted.

Regards,
Andrew.
