...in the posting stats for UKRAM for May 2018 as no-one of any
substance has asked for the data.

But you all know it's going to be bad news, especially as June 2018 is
the predicted month for the 5000th post, and the group is currently 245
posts short of that number, with a prediction of being between 187 and
208 posts behind on the day itself.

This means that not only has the decline continued, but the 20%
shortfall in postings suggests the decline is accelerating, so one can
understand why the data hasn't been demanded and that shooting the
messenger seems the only way forward in the steady march to the group's
oblivion.

Almost 5000 posts in two and a half years, to a niche interest newsgroup,
on Usenet, in the 21st Century? That's great news! Well done, ukrammers!

His attempts to try and salvage some dignity from disgrace are pathetic.
Having churned out his dubious reports for years, he has been forced to
conceded that not only are they a joke but no one believes them. He has
been predicting the demise of ukram, the RSGB, and of course, RSGBTech,
for years yet all continue to exist, if not thrive. Meanwhile, the cosy
little group set up by his fellow usual reject is on its last legs.

You could always post your evidence of your claims - but you won't, so
they remain just that, and about as valuable as your intestinal gas
expelled at a Lodge Night dinner.

For UKRAM, we are now only a few days short of the predicted date for
post No. 5000, and are currently >10% below the required number of posts
for that interval. Even your 'no technical knowledge' friend - the one
who shot himself in the foot so many times during his failed attempts to
get the group created, has essentially ceased posting there.

The decline of UKRAM has not only been maintained, but has increased -
and as predicted at the time, it's creation brought Usenet no good at all.

HTH.

As it was formed to cater for the needs of real radio amateurs (who
these days are few and far between), UKRAM has always been a 'quiet'
group. However, with the exception of Jim's, most of the posts have been
fairly well on-topic - which is a lot more than can be said for this NG.

I don't 'follow' it, just count posts, posters, and threads.

But 75 - yes, 75! - percent down in postings. It's at the stage where
it's dead but it won't lie down.

On a six-month rolling total basis, the group is now 75% quieter

Burt, just a glance at the headers, Burt? Burt, you're in good company,

Burt, Thanks, Burt.
Steve - are you one of those pillocks, Steve, who, during a QSO,
Steve, at the start and end of every 'over' (no matter how short,
Steve), gives every participant's callsign - including, Steve, the
full phonetics?
Ian, no, I'm not, Ian. Ian, are you one of those pillocks, Ian, who,

Was that cut and pasted - or did you type it out yourself?

This means that not only has the decline continued, but the 20%
shortfall in postings suggests the decline is accelerating, so one can
understand why the data hasn't been demanded and that shooting the
messenger seems the only way forward in the steady march to the group's
oblivion.
In the grand scheme of things, we're all doomed to oblivion. ukra isn't
doing too well either, which is a bit of shame. At least the abuse has
subsided, so it could recover.

BTW I see someone has created an RSGBTek group.

The trouble with RealOps is that it never catered for the 'what sideband
should I be using?' or 'why have my local repeaters gone silent now I'm
licensed?' types. RSGBTech, on the other hand, welcomes such people -
apparently there are plenty about, these days. I put it down to a poor
training scheme.

Spike

"RSGBTech is meant for everyone", claims the RSGB. It is moderated
to keep 'the questions are on topic', Yet the admissions policy also
mentions
but does not define (a pre-) 'vet', 'known', 'trouble', and 'maker', and is
silent on the vetting policy!
These are not 'moderation' issues and not part of the RSGB's Guidelines.

Quote the GDPR and in particular the sections on Valid Consent, Data
security and also that this constitutes a Contravention of 4 of the six
Data Protection Principles namely:

Lawful processing - no consent to create the account therefore
processing is not lawful.
Legitimate collection - account created without your knowledge
Adequate and Relevant - because you are not a member.
Stored only as long as necessary - no longer required.

It may be worth mentioning the fines as an incentive. They can be quite
large but be aware that it can take the DP officer a reasonable time to act.

Adequate and Relevant - because you are not a member.
Stored only as long as necessary - no longer required.
It may be worth mentioning the fines as an incentive. They can be quite
large but be aware that it can take the DP officer a reasonable time to act.

I doubt if he'll have to do any of that. Just change the password using
his email as confirmation of his ID and once logged in using his email
he can cancel everything. And if he leaves his email registered no-one
will be able to use it again. (Unless he uses a guessable password.)

processing is not lawful.

Ah yes. That's the sensible option.
I am data controller for a couple of charities so I am currently
head-full of GPRD stuff and went for the complicated option.

"RSGBTech is meant for everyone", claims the RSGB. It is moderated
to keep 'the questions are on topic', Yet the admissions policy also

but does not define (a pre-) 'vet', 'known', 'trouble', and 'maker', and is

These are not 'moderation' issues and not part of the RSGB's Guidelines.

It's a feeble attempt to reflect the comment regarding his

so when seriously rattled, the silly old cunt.

I have always been grumpy. When I read both "Grumpy Old Men" or saw
the TV series, I could tick off everything as it applied to me.

I am especially grumpy at the moment as not worked due to ill-health
for over 3 years and can see light at the end of the tunnel. I LOVE my
day job and miss it terribly, especially as I am good at it even if I
say so myself. My measure is one of the finest dentists in the country

Detached retinas are all too common. According to my optician, along
with cataracts due to the fact people are living longer etc, the chances
we will experience one is quite scary. A friend suffered one a year or
two back. Fortunately, it was treated successfully but it was a long
process- part of which increases the chances of developing cataracts so
they replaced his lense as a precaution. He seems OK now. He was only
about 60 at the time it all started. Even if you don't wear glasses it
is worth having your eyes checked every year.

Absolutely! Same about going to the dentist. A few years ago, new
guidelines came out for acute allergy sufferers, the ones who have to
carry Epipens/adrenaline. The advice was, basically, that they should
have TWO lots. The number of doctors who did not do that. The only
other bits of the advice is that the second dose should be given about
5-15 mins after the first if still feeling unwell. In all cases, 999
should be dialled and an ambulance called.

I gave my patients a print out of the official advice.

Plus, the number of lives saved by not only spotting oral cancer, the
others found just by taking a history, e.g. a pt who has lost a lot of
weight unintentionally.

Many patients are happy when I offer to do their treatment without
injections. In my time I have even done proper surgical procedures on
people without local anaesthetic. Unfortunately many dentists seem to
insist that an injection is given, even to children.

Sometimes the injection is worse than the treatment ;-) While the needle
is quite fine, it feels like a drain pipe.

I broke a tooth while on holiday in France a year or two back. We found
a dentist who agreed to see me at short notice the next day, at 8 am on
a Sat. She fixed, gave me an Xray to give to my dentist etc. Total
bill- under 25 Euro.

Before I left home at the age of 21, the local family dentist didn't
really believe that injections were needed (especially when the
new-fangled high-speed drill came out), and I used to dread having
fillings.

The only time I think I had an injection was when I had to have a molar
out. It was painless! [Note: I did actually look after my teeth pretty
well, but apparently they were 'hard on the outside, and soft on the
inside'.]

After that, apart from the most minor of repairs to existing fillings,
the dentists I've had have always given me injections - and (hopefully!)
I shall be having another one tomorrow.

There is a reason for, perhaps, needing antibiotics prior to dental
work. Those with certain heart defects are at risk due to the chance of
infection- nothing to do with being in the US etc.
